A friend of Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, said on Friday that House Republicans were giving a skewed and false account of what he said in his statement to the impeachment probe. Kevin Morris, an attorney and friend of Hunter Biden, talked about the money he loaned Biden to pay his taxes and buy art in an interview that was held behind closed doors.
Republicans in the House have been saying that President Biden and his family got special treatment because of decisions made when Biden was vice president from 2009 to 2017. The White House and Hunter Biden both say they did nothing wrong.
In answer, Morris’s lawyer wrote a letter saying that the loans were real, had proper terms, and were due to be paid back. The lawyer wanted the full copy of Morris’s interview to be made public, saying that the information that was given was selective and false.
The lawyer’s letter says that Morris and Hunter Biden haven’t talked much but that Morris has been to the White House a few times, including for Hunter Biden’s daughter’s wedding and a tour given by Hunter. The House Oversight Committee said it would share the transcript soon, but the court reporter had not yet sent it to them.
Hunter Biden has to deal with legal problems in addition to the political attention. In two different cases, he was accused of not paying $1.4 million in taxes from 2016 to 2019 and lying about using drugs when he bought a gun. In both cases, Hunter Biden has said he is not guilty. The changing situation makes the political problems surrounding the Biden family even worse and shows how difficult it is when law and political problems come together.
