US election 2024: Where did Ron DeSantis’s entire campaign go wrong?

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who was once called “Trump 2.0” and was a strong candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, has officially dropped out of the race. Even though Ron DeSantis started the campaign with a lot of confidence and promises of the “Great American Comeback,” he faced huge problems. Former President Donald Trump was the most important person in the campaign.

People thought the Florida governor didn’t have much charisma, and he made some awkward meetings with voters and mistakes in his campaign strategy that hurt him. However, the main reason Ron DeSantis quit was because of how strong Trump is as a politician. The Florida governor couldn’t get past Trump’s loyal supporters, whose backing has shaped their political and personal lives over the past ten years.

Ron DeSantis: A Rollercoaster Ride from Contender to Withdrawal

At the start of 2023, Ron DeSantis was a major danger to Trump. With poll numbers around 35%, he was close enough to hit the former president. After a record-setting win to stay in office as governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis looked like he was ready for a tough campaign. But because the official campaign launch was delayed, Trump was able to get back on track. By May, he had risen above 50% in the polls.

People thought that delaying the official launch was a huge mistake. It gave Trump a chance to fix his image and make money off of national news stories about legal problems. Even though some people thought Trump’s legal problems might make him less popular, Ron DeSantis didn’t criticize him and often repeated his claims that he was being unfairly targeted.

DeSantis tried not to upset Trump, but the former president still attacked him harshly, calling him names like “Meatball Ron” and “Ron DeSanctimonious.” The governor of Florida focused on culture wars instead of addressing voters’ worries about the economy. This let Nikki Haley, a moderate candidate, take the middle ground.

The national focus brought out Ron DeSantis flaws as a candidate, especially in Iowa and New Hampshire, where voters didn’t like how robotic he seemed and how awkward he was with other people. Trump’s control over the Republican base and Ron DeSantis bad decisions about strategy caused him to drop out of the 2024 presidential run.
