The United States (US) reacted against Iran for firing nuclear missiles into the city of Irbil in northern Iraq, calling the strikes “careless and inaccurate.”
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they struck an Israeli “spy headquarters” in Iraq’s partially independent Kurdistan Region.
According to a report from the Kurdistan Region Security Council, Monday’s attack injured six people and killed four. Iraq claimed the strikes were an attack on its security and condemned them. Their government has made no comment on Iran’s statements.
Reuters also reported that early Tuesday morning, Kurdish officials said they shot down three armed drones flying over Irbil airport, which is home to the US and other soldiers. They did not specify how many individuals were injured or how much damage was caused.

Tensions in the Gaza Strip have risen since October 7, when Israel launched its war against the Iranian-backed Palestinian group Hamas. Armed organizations with Iranian affiliations are increasingly participating in the conflict, including in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.
Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, stated in a statement, “We will continue to assess the situation, but initial indications are that this was a reckless and inaccurate set of strikes.”

“The United States supports Iraq’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity,” she stated, adding that no one or anything in the US was harmed. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed that “ballistic missiles destroyed one of the main Mossad spy cells in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region.”
The statement said it was “in response to the recent crimes of the Zionist regime.”
ISIS and Israeli spy services are believed to have exploited bases in Iraqi Kurdistan that Iran has targeted with rockets. Mazrour Barzani, the head of the Kurdistan Regional Government, described the latest attack on Irbil as a “crime against the Kurdish people.”
Mr. Barzani’s Kurdistan Democratic Party reported that four people were killed, including a well-known businessman named Peshraw Dizayee. They also stated that they targeted Islamic State (IS) positions in Syria on Monday night.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is headquartered in the United Kingdom and monitors the conflict, reported hearing explosions in and near the northwestern city of Aleppo. It was reported that “at least four missiles that came from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea” struck the area.
The Revolutionary Guards opened fire on Syria in response to a suicide bomber this month that murdered a crowd celebrating the anniversary of the US assassination of Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani.
Many more people were injured in the Kerman attack, which took place in southern Iran. There were at least 94 deaths.
